Good News & Bad News

I have mixed feelings about the stories I heard or read the last few days, some made me happy, some made me confused and some made me angry. The first is the amazing Tyler Stout posters for Avengers that Mondo just unveiled; there’s two variants and they both go on sale today and I want one desperately. I’ve posted one of the versions above and the other along with some of his other work after the read more link.

Secondly I found out Sofia Coppola’s latest film The Bling Ring is in post-production after Emma Watson tweeted a photo of herself in costume, you can see the photo here. I’m really excited for this film since I loved all her others, namely Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides. The Bling Ring is set for release in 2013, along with Catching Fire, the much anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games, which is set to start filming in Autumn this year under Francis Lawrence’s direction, something else I’m very happy about.

White Trash Noir

Jennifer Lawrence plays a seventeen year old girl who hunts to feed her family, supports her depressed mother and is thrown into life threatening situations. I’m not talking about The Hunger Games, but the film that won Jennifer her first Oscar nomination, Winter’s Bone. A lot of people recognise her from the big studio films she’s done recently but this is one of my favourites; the acting is excellent and so is Debra Granik’s direction. The story is bleak, harsh and memorable alongside the beautifully haunting grey Ozark landscapes. Marideth Sisco’s vocals and the rest of the films soundtrack really capture the characters plight and contributes to a film that really deserved it’s four Oscar nominations; this is a must see for fans of engaging cinema and Jennifer Lawrence admirers alike.
